ORIGINAL PAINTINGS

Welcome to Alison Dibble’s website.

It’s like a studio visit, though it’s virtual, and tidier. Available paintings are in the store (click on Shop), or check out the ARCHIVES on this page, below.

Sellers Island, in Penobscot Bay, Maine, Alison C. Dibble 2023 (sold)

Happy Spring!

“With the weather warming up, I can stay outside longer, paint in more places.” Alison Dibble was inspired by the colors when she was sketching in oils on the bank of the Androscoggin River near the Jay paper mill site, March 2023.

Alison paints almost every day, often outdoors. “I work briskly. While I’m in front of my subject, I’m focused on a feeling, a mood or an emotion, and secondarily on the scene itself. The feeling could be awe — the wonder of being alive in this world — or the mood could be resistance to change. Or I might be exploring the pull of nostalgia. When I’m painting, time is suspended. The outcome is less important than my own expansion during the process.

At some point in developing the painting, my attention shifts to the reality that I’d like to connect with the viewer, who might see what I was going for, or get swept up in a story of their own. What spark will this painting ignite in someone else? and could it happen repeatedly in a relationship between the artwork and the people who encounter it? For many of my paintings, the viewer becomes my collaborator and is necessary to the completion of the art experience.”

That’s a reason for this web site. Alison is a Maine landscape painter who works in oils, watercolor, gouache, and casein. All paintings here are originals. Each is unique, one-of-a-kind, a handmade work of fine art that was developed with at least a little anguish, and with a spirit of sharing. All are made in the U.S.A., though some materials were made in other countries.

Part of the proceeds from sales of these paintings are donated to small nonprofits that serve the needs of people in vital but under-reported parts of the world. Alison says, “My network of fellow art collectors make this possible. Thank you!
