Schoodic Point

$2,900.00

‘Schoodic Point’ is an original, unique, handmade oil painting on canvas, by Alison C. Dibble. It was painted in 2011, and is 24 x 30”.

This is one of the exciting areas in Acadia National Park in coastal Maine, it is a favorite spot where there seems to be a concentration of energy that revives the spirit, refreshes the soul. In the near ground is the southern part of Schoodic Point, facing toward Bar Harbor, though that is too far away to see. Some weather is approaching from the West. The Schoodic Peninsula sticks out into the Western Atlantic Ocean and is subject to storms, heavy surf, high winds, and extreme conditions that shape the spruce trees that dare to grow at the edge of the pink granite ledges.

An immovable object, an irresistible force — one of my favorite juxtapositions to paint. I was interested in a sense of foreboding with the approaching dark clouds, in contrast to the solidity and permanence of the granite. Resilience!
