‘Craig Pond Shallows’ is a large painting but not very heavy. It is ready to hang and is on a wide stretcher meaning that it can be displayed without a frame; in fact, it looks great that way as it stands out from the wall by not quite 2 inches.

‘Craig Pond Shallows’ by Alison C. Dibble, is an original, fine art oil painting on canvas, 36 x 36 inches. It is an abstract design and is based on real pebbles in the shallow water at a beautiful clear water pond in Orland, Maine. Some people in our area consider that pond to be one of the best places for a swim on a hot day.
I had run away from my work for a little while, between meetings, on a hot humid day in early September. I was enjoying sitting in the shallow water after my swim, and I had my waterproof camera in hand. I held the camera about an inch above the surface of the water. The digital camera captured the water going over the colorful pebbles in the shore in such a way that the movement of the water was documented in the digital image. It was strange, and beautiful, and I was enthralled!
Back in the studio, once I started painting this, I realized that there were yet more phenomena to be found in the image: a series of small chroma (rainbows) were in the images. I put those in the painting. Because I force myself to work quickly, I soon had a most unusual painting, then I had to look at it for about three weeks trying to figure out if it was finished. I couldn’t find anything more that needed doing, and didn’t want it to be fussy either, so finally, I had to admit that it was done.
