‘Garden Bounty’, by Alison C. Dibble, is an original fine art oil painting. It is a unique, handmade item, one-of-a-kind. The brush strokes are lively, the forms of the vegetables seem to stand out from the painting in an engaging way. If a still life could talk, maybe this one would sing a harvest thanksgiving song. “…all is safely gathered in, ere the winter storms begin…” (Henry Alford’s hymn, Come Ye Thankful People Come”, 1844).
My friends gave me the largest tomatoes I had ever seen, from their family garden, and I was so impressed with their generosity, and with the size and color of the tomatoes that I had to paint them. Then I sliced them and roasted the slices with little olive oil, oregano, basil, salt and pepper, and froze them on a cookie sheet, tucked them in the freezer. My, those were good! All winter long, any time I saw a package of those I thought of the skill of the gardeners, the rich flavor of the tomatoes, and the sunny days that enabled them to become so full. The painting is a reminder of all good gifts that come our way, and of the generosity of people in our lives.
