Storms on the rocky Maine shore can be so violent that the earth shakes with the force of the waves, especially at Pemaquid Point, Maine. But in this painting, the dawn is tranquil, the smell of salt is in the warm air, and the tide is coming gently. I arose at 3:30 am, got myself out there, and painted as fast as I could before that warm pink color disappeared. As I painted, I thought about the many storms this lighthouse has endured. Lives were saved because of the dedication of the people who worked here years ago. This painting is in part a tribute to their courage and their many sacrifices.
