I pushed the color on this painting of an oak. The actual scene was beige and gray, but the hope of early spring on a rare warm day in March called for rich colors.
I was studying painting with my friend Louise Bourne in 2008. On a sunny day in early spring, Louise challenged us to go outdoors and paint what we saw. This tree caught my imagination with its branch shadows gracing the trunk.
