Craig Pond Shallows II

In this large abstract oil painting, gently rippling water causes distorted patterns over smooth pebbles at the edge of the pond on a warm day.

Craig Pond Shallows II  portrays abstract patterns made by clear water over colorful pebbles. This painting is by Alison C. Dibble, oil on canvas, 36 x 36 x 1.5 inches (91.4 x 91.4 x 3.8 cm). Original, one-of-a-kind fine art painting. Ready to hang. Price ($2300) includes handling, packing and shipping in lower 48 states of USA*.

It was a hot day in September and I had a few hours before my next meeting. Craig Pond was calm with only a few other bathers. I sat in the shallows with my camera lens an inch above the water surface and photographed pebbles magnified by the ripples. A small snapping turtle swam by but was not interested in me.

When I set out to interpret my photo onto a large canvas, I wasn’t sure what would happen, but the design unfolded before me in a pleasant rhythm. Those odd little rainbow-like refractions were a particular surprise to me; they were really in the photo.
