It was a hot day in September and I had a few hours before my next meeting. Craig Pond was calm with only a few other bathers. I sat in the shallows with my camera lens an inch above the water surface and photographed pebbles magnified by the ripples. A small snapping turtle swam by but was not interested in me.

When I set out to interpret my photo onto a large canvas, I wasn’t sure what would happen, but the design unfolded before me in a pleasant rhythm. Those odd little rainbow-like refractions were a particular surprise to me; they were really in the photo.
