Baxter Peak
$1,000.00
The highest point in Maine is Baxter Peak on Katahdin in Baxter State Park. Painted by Alison Dibble, oil on panel 11 x 14 inches.
Description
Katahdin is almost exactly a mile above sea level, and it has taken me hours to get up into the alpine zone. The day is perfect, but the weather is highly changeable in the high elevations. Finally, the summit is within site. People have piled rocks to make the mountain even taller at Baxter Peak, but it’s a much-loved monument. And that’s a high bar in Baxter State Park, one of the best places to hike in all of Maine.
Baxter Peak is an original fine art oil painting by Alison C. Dibble, oil on panel, 11 x 14 inches. This painting won Best Of Show in the Bangor Art Society Members Show in Bangor, Maine, February 2022. The judges were Nina Jerome and Lee Umphrey.

I’ve painted Katahdin many times; it’s a great favorite subject. Check out Baxter Peak to Knife Edge, painted from the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.
