The most advanced technology, in the world’s most elaborate sailing race, made for a grand painting experiment from the live stream on my laptop.
What is there to do on a winter afternoon in Maine, if you’re not out snowshoeing around in the woodlot trying to remain upright in the deep snow? In 2014 I tried streaming the America’s Cup yacht race live on the internet, taking photos of the laptop screen with my camera. This bizarre composition came along, with the view from the stern of Alinghi as it trailed BMW Oracle (out ahead, in the distance, winning). I got inspired to paint these two magnificent state-of-the-art racing machines.
